Private Yoga & Meditation Sessions

Private sessions are typically scheduled 2-3 weeks in advance. Offered by Karina and Kara. (full details here)

 

Pure Basics - Beginning Yoga (see semester dates)
Pure Basics are the foundations for any yoga practice: an understanding of what yoga is and how it works to support physical, mental, and spiritual wellness: focus on personal alignment in the six categories of yoga poses. theory, breath techniques, and yoga postures designed to build core support and encourage relaxation will be shared in this gentle class. (Developed by Karina- Taught by Kara) - All adult ages, body types and fitness levels welcome.

 

Beginner / Intermediate: Para Yoga®
ParaYoga is a style of Tantric Hatha Yoga. Asanas (yoga postures) are presented systematically to safely open the body and are intelligently sequenced for specific energetic effects and health benefits. Pranayama (breath work), mantra (sound), and meditation are included in Tantric Hatha yoga classes. -This class explores the principles of alignment in classical yoga postures and flowing movements called vinyasas. Gently exploring the conscious link between breath and movement, this class will offer a mild pace of yoga postures which are great for building strength and flexibility. Emphasizing the health benefits of practice, mindfulness, and self-care, this class has a therapeutic approach, meeting the needs of the day. (Taught by Karina & Kara) -Prior completion of the Basics classes are helpful but not required; beginners welcome.

 

Intermediate / Advanced: Para Yoga®
ParaYoga is a style of Tantric Hatha Yoga. Asanas (yoga postures) are presented systematically to safely open the body and are intelligently sequenced for specific energetic effects and health benefits. Pranayama (breath work), mantra (sound), and meditation are included in Tantric Hatha yoga classes. -Thisis a powerful and dynamic Tantric Hatha class. Primarily a vinyasa style asana practice, we engage in longer holds in poses and more complex postures. We'll explore breath retention and visualization to awaken the power of the subtle forces. This class is 1 hour and 45 min long, leaving ample time to rest and sit at the end. The techinques applied during the asana portion of the class prepare us for comprehensive pranayama and meditation techniques. This class is a workout for the body, mind and soul. 6 AM Yoga: (more details)
Wake up your body and mind in this invigorating morning yoga experience. This class is the perfect way to center yourself for the day ahead. We'll breathe deep, stretch out, and build strength. This class is designed for both beginning and intermediate yoga students. Many athletes, runners and downtown professionals find tremendous benefit from starting thier day the YOGA WAY! - [Changing facilities are available before and after practice. Meditation Workshop (details)
Learn to cultivate a clam, clear and tranquil mind by learning how to meditate as the yogi's have for thousands of years. Some light stretching prepares the body to sit comfortably to then be guieded toward your clam, steady center.

Community Classes (Weekends - Yoga for Your Budget)
"Sangha" means community. Community Classes are taught by rotating instructors within the Kalamazoo area. Each certified teacher brings his or her own unique training experience to our community. These weekend classes are worth our normal class prices but we realize that yoga classes can get expensive over time. We at Sangha beleive that yoga should be affordalble to EVERYONE, so we offer our Communuty Classes on a cash based program called, "Yoga for Your Budget". If you drop in and pay with cash you can name your own price and pay whatever you can afford!

Power Vinyasa
This dynamic yoga class is performed in a heated room. It combines deep breathing and flowing yoga postures like sun salutations. Hot Vinyasa Yoga has the ability to build strength, increase endurance, release tension, burn calories, detox and create more flexibility in the entire body. The class can be vigorous and challenging and will leave you feeling empowered and energized. Join us on Fridays!!! Levels 1-3 Welcome (Taught by Kristin F)

 

HOT YOGA: Vinyasa Flow (6 week semesters in the winter months)
According to the science of Ayurveda, practicing yoga in a heated room helps to balance the cold, dry conditions of winter. Hot yoga focuses on detoxification and flexibility. The word Vinyasa means “breath-synchronized movement.” In other words, the teacher will instruct you to move from one pose to the next on an inhale or an exhale. This technique is sometimes also called Vinyasa Flow, or just Flow because of the smooth way that the poses run together and become like a dance. Some yoga experience is recommended. Yoga for Athletes (Yoga for Your Budget)
Yoga for Athletes is designed for the needs of athletes in mind, and is also open to anyone seeking a storng workout. This class focuses on building core strength, endurance, balance, flexibility, and range of motion. Techniques for cultivating the mental focus, concentration, and clarity needed to accomplish athletic goals wil be shared, as well as the tools needed to de-stress in everyday life. This class is also great cross training for runners and players of any sport. All levels welcome (Taught by Kristin)

 

Restorative Yoga (student disounted drop-in)
Restorative Yoga is the most nurturing and relaxing type of yoga. All poses are done lying on the floor, supported by blankets, cushions and other props. These techniques restore balance to the autonomic nervous system though deep relaxation. This class opens and closes with call and response chanting. Beginners Welcome, learn more.(Taught by Ann)

 

Classic Hatha Yoga (senior disounted drop-in)
Classical Hatha Yoga is a meditative approach to practicing basic standing, seated, inverted and lying yoga postures.  This class will focus on the principles of alignment, breathing and relaxation. Learn how to maximize your comfort and the health benefits of each pose by using various props like blankets, bolsters, blocks, the wall, and even folding chairs. This mindfully paced class is great for all ages and levels of practitioner. - We offer a senior disocunt of $12 per class to any person 60 years or older. (Taught by Ann)

 

Hatha/ Vinyasa
"Hatha Yoga” is commonly understood as the seated, lying, and standing yoga postures.  “Vinyasa” often implies flows of postures linked together with the breath like sunsalutations. - These classes will focus on the principles of alignment as well as how to culitvate balance in the inner and outer life.  Learn how to maximize the effect of poses using various props. These classes draw from different yoga styles and traditions to cultivate strength, flexibility and mental focus both on and off the mat! (Taught by Jerry & Kristin F)

 

Prenatal Yoga (see semester details)
This prenatal yoga class is for women at all stages of pregnancy.  In this class you’ll physically, mentally & emotionally prepare for childbirth. Learn to adjust to the physical changes to your body and manage discomforts. You’ll gain strength, flexibility & self confidence.  Gentle hatha yoga, kundalini, and dance movements will shared along with breath work, imagery and meditation techniques. - Learn to consciously focus on and spiritually experience your pregnancy.  This delightful class will enhance your ability to relax & enjoy your pregnancy with other women. - Please consult your physician or midwife prior to participation (Taught by Chelsie)
