a Kalamazoo College "for PED Credit" 10 Week Semester Course
10am-11am: Wednesday mornings at "The Fitness Spot" downtown Kalamazoo
Print the Fall 2010 Course Syllabus

ABOUT THIS CLASS
Finally, a physical education course you can actually take to the dance floor! Club dancing can be a great form of aerobic exercise, it also engages and tones core muscles and increases fluidity of the spine. In this class you'll learn basic moves to improve your self confidence on the dance floor. We'll explore stepping, isolations, and shifting tempos and levels. - The more subtle intention of this course is to teach young women how to feel confident and sensual without being overtly sexual while dancing. You'll learn how to attract the "right" kind of attention and gain skills for navigating uncomfortable situations while dancing in groups. This class promises to be a great workOUT for your body, and a powerful workUP for your self-confidence. Plus it's a heck of a lot of fun!!!! Please email Karina with any questions.

YOUR HOSTS
Karina Mirsky, MA is the director of Sangha Yoga. She has been approached by women for years asking her to teach them how to move like her on the dance floor. She has an extensive dance background, but found her true passion for what she call "street dancing" in her early 20's. Karina hopes to empower other women with her knowledge of movement, consciousness, and feminism. She shares her wisdom in a raw, real way and if often described as being very grounded (and really funny.)

Carrie Brankiewicz is the owner of The Fitness Spot (formerly Carrie's Fitness Studio). She understands the human body in a unique and profound way. Carrie graduated magna cum laude from Kalamazoo College in 2004 with an honors degree in Biology. She is a certified personal trainer and massage therapist. Carrie believes that participating in a health and fitness program should increase one’s body awareness and health, as well as enhance one’s quality of life. She is delighted to be co-teaching this class with her good friend and client, Karina Mirksy.
