Ayurvedic Weekend
with Asheville, N.C.'s Daneal Healey

Ayurveda is the science and study of "life" established out of ancient Indian culture 5000 years ago. It offers a way to live in harmony with nature both internally and externally. This weekend intensive will introduce Sankya philosophy. Topics include: how consciousness manifests into matter, the five elements: ether, air, fire, water and earth and, how these elements combine to create unique human constitutions. We'll explore the gunas (qualities) and how they combine to create the doshas (humors). When the gunas and doshas are in balance, they maintain all bodily functions -but when out of balance, they can lead to sickness, instability or disease.  Participants in this weekend will gain insight to their own unique constitutions as they relate to the doshas and gunas. We will also assess our present state of health and balance. We will learn how to organize our lives and manage the doshas in order to live in more harmony with ourselves and the world around us so that we can experience joy, ease, and vibrant health.

Friday, August 15th: 7-8:30pm ($10)
An introduction to the weekend. In this satsang (talk) we will explore Sankya and the other 5 main philosophies which Ayurveda accepts as valid knowledge. We will lay the foundation for the weekend, what Ayurveda is and where it came from in order for us to delve deeper into this ancient healing system.

Saturday August 16th: ($60)
9-12pm
Saturday morning we will begin to explore the Gunas(qualities) of the elements and how they combine to create the Doshas, Shad Rasa(6 tastes) and how Ayurveda uses the elements to treat imbalances. This session includes an asana practice.
2-5pm
In the afternoon we will take a deeper look at the Doshas. Exploring what they look like, feel like and their functions so that we can begin to get a sense of our unique constitution, determined at the time of our conception.

Sunday, August 17th: 9-12:30pm ($30)
Sunday we will go over some general guidelines for managing the doshas and some signs and symptoms that they are out of balance. We'll look at using yoga practice as a tool for rebalancing doshas too! Asana, pranayama and meditation included.

Daneal Healey

has been studying yoga and Ayurveda since 1998 when he took his first Hatha yoga class at Arizona State University.  A Michigan native, Daneal began studying with and assisting Karina in the fall of 2001, she in turn introduced him to her teacher Rod Stryker, with whom he has completed over 400 hours in the lineage of ParaYoga.  After moving to the beautiful mountains of North Carolina, Daneal began teaching Tantric Hatha Yoga and took a three month course in Ayurveda from Vishnu Das, a graduate from the Ayurvedic Institute.  This course nurtured the seed of Ayurveda planted by Karina and Rod through their authentic lineage.  After teaching yoga and living in the world Daneal was called to attend the Ayurvedic Institute himself and has just completed the 8 month, 665 hour level 1 program.  Daneal has had the great honor to sit with Dr. Visant Lad, who has been sharing Ayurveda with the west for over 30 years. Dr. Lad teaches from his profound knowledge gained from his Guru and his nearly 40 years of clinical practice.   Daneal is humbled and honored to be able to share the overflowing of grace and knowledge shared with him from his amazing and authentic teachers and his life experience and practice!
