Private Yoga & Coaching Sessions

Q: What Can a Private Session Provide?
A:
Any of the following:
One-on-one personal training - Answers to  personal questions - Refined alignments in poses- Customized home practices - Yoga therapy programs for specific needs - Philosophical coaching - Personalized relaxation or meditation - Spiritual guidance - Mantra initiation

Q: Who Are Private Sessions For?
A: Individuals or Small Private Groups:
Beginning students - Desire personal coaching - Working with chronic pain - Obesity - Pregnancy - Disability - Stress - Anxiety - Depression - Sleep trouble - Anyone seeking to deepen into yoga practice

Q: What Happens in a Private Session?
A: In a private lesson students learn how to safely and effectively practice yoga for their individual needs- learning which exercises and practices are most useful and which ones to avoid.  Some students prefer to have a personal practice outlined for them and then enjoy working at home alone. Others simply enjoy the personal attention and customized instruction of a one on one class. Many are also interested in the psychological or spiritual teachings of yoga and meditation. Other also come for the emotional and psycho-spiritual support or affirmational coaching of the instructor.

Q: Why are Private Sessions Highly Recommended for Herniated or Ruptured Spinal Disks?
A: Many doctors are suggesting yoga to people with disk issues. It's true that yoga can be very therapeutic and provide pain relief for these folks. However, certain postures offered in a group class setting could also aggravate disk conditions. At Sangha Yoga "safety is our first priority." With just a little private coaching, someone with a disk issue can learn how to practice yoga safely alone or in a group class. In just one private session, a student can gain a basic understanding of which postures are most useful to their condition, which ones to avoid, and which ones to approach in a modified form.

Q: Why are Private Sessions Recommended for Pregnancy?
A: Pregnancy is such an individual experience that it deserves individual attention and support. This personal guidance empowers the "mother to be" to practice at home alone or with a partner safely. She can then attend ANY regular group yoga class at her leisure with the understanding of how to take care of herself by modifying postures to avoid strain or injury to the baby.

Q: What is Mantra & Matra Initiation?
A: Somewhat similarly to the way acupuncture works on the subtle meridians of the body, mantra effects our psycho-spiritual self via sound waves and vibration. A personal mantra is a sound or series of sounds used to: help one overcome blocks or obstacles- connect with healing energy, empowerment or love - move through grief or depression- or a variety of other needs of the soul. According to the tradition of Sri Vidya, very few sanskrit mantras are "unlocked" to the general public - meaning that repeating a mantra will not be that effective unless it has been prescribed by a teacher who has been granted the authority to do so. This is what happens in mantra initiation. The teacher meditates on the essence of a student's needs and then "unlocks" the most appropriate mantra for that student to use to over come their limitations and connect to their highest potential.

Q: What do I Bring to a Private Session? - What do I Wear? - How do I Prepare?
A: There is nothing you need to do to prepare for your private session. If you have a spinal condition like scoliosis and want to bring a your X-rays or MRI report for the instructor to review.- Wear clothing that is comfortable and will stretch and move with your body. You are encouraged to bring a notebook and pen.

Q: Why Are They Priced This Way?

A: Whether teaching a group class or a private lesson, qualified yoga teachers make a certain hourly rate for their time of service. Private yoga sessions are priced similarly to that of other forms of healthcare service that require the same length of time for a one-on-one session: (ie.massage therapy, acupuncture, counseling, physical therapy). Hundreds of hours and thousands of dollars are spent in training by the teacher to be able to offer this comprehensive service.

Q: How & When can I Schedule a Private?
A: Review the appointment times and instructor info below, then email one of them to set up an appointment. Sessions are usually scheduled 2-3 weeks in advance. Participants must be 12 years or older.

Q: Is there a cancellation policy?
A:
Yes. Since the instructor only earns a wage if an appointment can be filled, Sangha Yoga reserves the right to charge a $25 fee for appointments cancelled within 48 hours of the scheduled appointment time. A "no call no show" can result in a a full payment fee.
